Warframe Viral Dmg
In this final episode of WDR, we take a look at a deadly viral agent capable of temporarily cutting enemies health in half. Viral is created by combining Toxin and Cold damage mods on the same weapon.
With the introduction of Amalgam units and mods in the game it was not really a question ‘if’ an amalgam weapon would be integrated into Warframe, but ‘when’ and ‘how’. Well, the answer is called ‘Komorex’ and not only uses Sentient technology, but does work great as a sniper rifle with a very high status chance and two different zoom modes that add different bonuses to your shots. It even does come with an innate ! Getting the weapon is pretty easy, because you simply need to research it in your Energy Lab first, before you can finally replicate the blueprint and craft the Komorex at your foundry. Make sure to stock up on Hexenon, the resource only found on Jupiter missions.
If you don’t really know what mods to use and how to build your own Komorex, you came to the right place. While you will need to invest four to six Forma into the weapon, you will get a decent sniper rifle with good area-of-effect damage and a fairly big magazine size.
- Oct 23, 2017 I may be just stupid But regarding the wiki, shouldn't Viral Corrosive? Viral recieves bonus damage towards most basic enemy types (exception being Infested Infantry, some of the most fragile enemies you can fight) and it's proc halfs the health of enemies by 50% for 8 seconds While corrosive has a damage bonus towards Ferrite armor and reduces armor by 25% permanently on proc.
- R/Warframe: Reddit community and official fansite for the free-to-play third-person co-op action shooter,.Warframe. The game is currently in open Press J to jump to the feed.
- Viral (Cold + Toxin): Strong against regular flesh. Weak against Infested flesh. Can reduce maximum health. If you need a more visual explanation, see the image below from the Warframe Wikia. The order in which you place the mods also matters in Warframe. The game reads them left to right, top to bottom.

- Fast fire rate
- Innate
- Large magazine size
- Two different zoom modes
- High Slash damage
- Good Puncture damage
Cons
- Very low base damage
- Low Impact damage
- Fairly slow reload speed
- Lowest critical chance (sniper rifles)

- Self-damage on second zoom mode
The Different Builds
While the Komorex does feature the lowest critical chance of all sniper rifles, it still has a decent enough chance to think about building for critical damage. Purely building around that isn’t recommended though, because the high status chance is just too good to not be used. You should also know that you should mostly use your second (3,5x) zoom mode, which not only gives you extra damage, but also a blast radius – so play accordingly and make sure not to kill yourself accidentally with your own weapon.
Another important information is the fact that you get innate viral damage on your second zoom mode, so if you want to add elemental damage, think about increasing your viral damage output. You could also combine it with corrosive or gas damage to quickly deal with Grineer or Corpus enemies.
Tip: If you want to know more about the Komorex and its abilities, feel free to take a look at the wikia page.
The Standard Build
This build completely ignores the critical chance and multiplier, simply because you’re not going to get a very good damage output by working around that. Especially the fairly low base damage is problematic and even if you deal critical damage it won’t be as high as with any other sniper rifle. So instead this build uses the normal rifle mods (, , ) to increase the damage output and abstains from using – missing a shot with a sniper rifle feels super bad and you don’t really want to risk that in a low fire rate weapon.
Corrosive dmg bl2. Vs Ferrite you do 275 (100 dmg + 100 from corrosive with 75% extra dmg)It's not mean vs Alloy, yes, BUT procs are another thing.
You also really want to use two +60% status chance mods and combine them with the elemental damage mod pendant. We do go for blast damage here, simply because the extra crowd control feels very strong with the blast radius you get when playing in your second zoom mode. You could also go for more viral damage or simply add gas or corrosive damage against Corpus or Grineer units. is your weakest mod and could be replaced by anything else you want to use instead – namely to combat the slow reload speed, to get the increased fire rate or to get even higher benefits from your status duration.
The Hybrid Build
While the critical damage output is not the best (because of the low base damage), you still might want to try and use this hybrid build in different missions. The combination of standard rifle mods, two +60% status chance mods (you don’t need to build your Komorex for viral damage, but it can be very beneficial, especially with some critical procs) and the three critical damage mods (, and ) can still be very strong. Make sure to always use your second zoom mode for the added +100% damage and the extra blast radius is also quite nice.
Your weakest mod by far is and there are a few different mods you might want to try instead: will still proc fairly often, especially due to the added blast radius, which will hit multiple enemies at the same time. is also a very nice addition, because you’re not going to un-zoom a lot, so you will benefit from the bonus all the time. You also might want to think about putting in against lower level enemies, so you can pop them fast enough.
The 100% Status Chance Build
We will add this build pro forma, but to be honest it is the weakest one of the three different builds displayed here. You can reach 100% status chance simply by using all three +60% status chance mods (, , and ), so every shot will proc your status chances. That said, there are only a few instances where you really want to use it. The Profit-Taker Orb fight might be one of them, fighting against very high level enemies while having a equipped might be another one. But the difference between 97,5% from the standard build and the 100% from this build isn’t that high and usually not worth the lower damage output.
If you’re going for this build, you really want to bring to get the increased duration for all three status procs – on second zoom mode this build will give you viral damage, corrosive damage and blast damage. is used to get some higher damage per shot output, but can easily be replaced by or for more DPS.
Conclusion
The Komorex is actually a very nice sniper rifle, but does work in an unorthodox way. The high status chance feels pretty great, but the lowish critical chance and the really low base damage are two big factors everyone needs to know and think about. So in the end it really comes down to the question ‘Where do you want to use this weapon?’, simply because there are not a lot of missions where this weapon can truly shine. The added blast damage is super strong, but playing a sniper rifle in indoor tilesets oftentimes feels clunky and problematic. You also don’t really want to bring it to the open world nodes, because you rather have a better critical chance on your sniper weapons for that. So in the end you really need to decide where and if you want to bring the Komorex.

While you can get the normal version of the Boltor pretty early on, getting the Boltor Prime is a bit harder. You do have to farm all the required relics first and then get lucky with the drops. But once you manage to get your hands on all the parts needed, you are able to build yourself one of the strongest rifles in the game. The Boltor Prime features a high puncture damage combined with very good critical damage and chance, which will give you a super high damage output. Since it also has a very high base damage, your overall damage feels pretty good.
That said, there are some minor inconveniences you should be aware about: If you compare the Boltor Prime to its direct competitor (the Soma Prime), you notice quite the difference in the magazine size. And while you usually don’t need many bullets to kill one enemy, killing a whole mob group might take way more, especially if you ‘spray and pray’ (like most people do. Lets be honest, no one got time to aim!) you might find yourself in a lot of trouble. So make sure do be as efficient as possible or at least know how to hide while you reload your weapon.
Pros
How To Do Viral Damage Warframe
- High puncture damage
- Good base damage
- High status chance
- Good critical chance
- Fine fire rate
- Nearly no recoil
Cons
- Low impact and slash damage
- Slow reload
- Bullets have travel time
- Ammo efficiency not the best
The different builds
Picking the right mods for your Boltor Prime should be fairly easy if you have ever build any rifle in the game: You should (almost) always use , and . Also you’re usually well equipped if you put in two elemental mods, with and being the standard choice. But you should always try to pick the elemental mod combination that will give you the best advantage against the enemies you are going to face in your next mission. You can use instead if you have that mod maxed, because it will increase your damage quite a bit. But that isn’t a must-have in any shape or form.

The Standard Build
To be honest, this build isn’t something special. It is upright, conservative and simply very strong. Two elemental mods, the usual mod support and are good in almost every rifle build. And since the Boltor Prime already features a good amount of critical chance, using feels super beneficial.
Just make sure to keep an eye on your ammo count and try not to spam too many bullets. You can even use over if you want to slow down your weapon (and if you feel like you don’t really need the extra base damage boost). That way you will automatically reduce your ammo waste and therefor never ever have any problems with your ammunition reserves.
Other mods you might want to think about are (fire rate an some punch through are always nice), to increase the already high puncture damage of your weapon and , which is super strong if your play style revolves around aiming and not hip-firing.
The Super Fast Fire Rate Build
Warframe Damage Types
If you want to shoot 25 bullets per second, then this build is where you want to go! Adding and to your build will give you the ability to empty your magazine in under three seconds – which is super strong if you want to simply slaughter mob groups. While this build lacks elemental mods and isn’t the greatest against higher level enemies you will still feel very strong during low and mid level missions. You could even add and and become even faster (but lose a good amount of damage output in the process). So feel free to experiment with this build and find the mod combination you do like the mos.
A few words of advice: You’re going to run out of bullets. Fast. So you really should use the Carrier (or it’s primed version) to increase your amount of ammo pickups. Otherwise you will have a lot of fun shooting your bullet – but only for a short amount of time.
Warframe Virus Damage
The Mass Crit Build
Since the Boltor Prime already has a high critical chance, build around and increasing the critical chance even further seems like a good idea. And if you’re using this build, you’re actually getting a good amount of damage out of it. Sadly, your slash damage is very low, so won’t be all that effective. You might even want to use something like or instead.
But you might also want to try and benefit from it against high level enemies or during boss fights. While this build isn’t on the same level as the standard Boltor Prime build it still does have a good amount of potential and sometimes you just want to try out something different.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that the Boltor Prime is one of the best primary weapons in the game. Some even say that it is the best rifle in Warframe, while others prefer the Soma Prime instead. Nonetheless, it is a weapon that shouldn’t be missing in your arsenal and if you ever get your hand on the blueprint and all the parts you need to craft it, go ahead and do so! You won’t regret it.
